A total of 230 people were presented qualification certificates for baby sitting and child care, which were issued by Shanghai Human Resources and Social Security Bureau on the weekend.

In order to attain a certificate, 48 hours of professional ethics courses needed to be completed, besides the 152 hours of classes on daily life care, health care and early education for young kids.

On top of that, they have also gone through a psychological test for patience to ensure they are suitable to work with children.

They were the first batch of students from the Shanghai Open University to receive both the vocational and ethics certificates, as well as psychological assessments, under a special program launched earlier this year.

The program was initiated to cope with increasing demand for qualified caregivers for children aged 3 and under, brought about by the new two-child family planning policy and heavy parent workload.
